Living abroad for Indonesians can be very interesting and challenging. The interesting part is that they can directly see and feel the cultural differences, like four seasons in a year, different languages, etc. And the challenging part is that they can miss their family members, relatives, friends, homesick, preferred foods particularly for those who have just resided in a certain country abroad. All these have to be managed well otherwise life isn’t so colourful.

Speaking of celebrating a certain national special day like independence day, religious events are always intriguing because people take the best moment to meet and greet their friends who living in other cities of the same country. Some new comers for example are eager to make new friends. It crates a great atmosphere.

There are many ways to celebrate the national special day like The National Batik Day for the Indonesian diaspora in Switzerland and some cities in France. One of them is to get together in front of the UN’s premises, to make a spontaneous fashion show, and singing a national song. They celebrate the National Batik Day on the 2nd October 2022 and promote the Kebaya to the UNESCO simultaneously.

It was a perfect day where they celebrate the national batik day as the weather was warm enough and above all it was on Sunday so people were laid back, I would say. I myself am happy that I could join in celebrating the national batik day and I was able to make a short film on their activities. The event won’t be materialised without a coordinator.
